1 A discovery completed by Camden Resources , Dallas, in Duval County, Texas, flowed 2.757 million cu. ft. of gas, 49 bbl. of condensate and 10 bbl. of water per day, reports IHS Energy Group. Camden's #1 Cuellar Camden yielded the flow on a 10/64-in. choke through perforations between 10,250-10,458 ft. The well is in TT RR #43 Survey, A-756, nearly a mile southwest of a Kreis Field well that produced gas from 10,792-10,892 ft. in Eocene Wilcox. 2 Texas' DeWitt County is the location of the #1 Apache Gas Unit, a Wilcox discovery completed by Saxet Energy Ltd. , Houston, for a flow of 3.776 million cu. ft. of gas and 8 bbl. of water per day. Perforated at 12,850-86 ft., the new producer was tested on a 9/64-in. choke. The well, in Delores Aldrette Survey, A-52, is a deeper-pool discovery that offsets to the northeast a Slick West Field well that produced gas from about 7,300 ft. in the early 1980s. 3 Mission Valley Field in Victoria County, Texas, has a new Wilcox producer, the result of work carried out by Houston independent Union Gas Operating Co. at the #1 Ohrt-Heinold in Milton H. Hardy Survey, A-174. The well gave up a flow of 12.885 million cu. ft. of gas, 264 bbl. of condensate and 47 bbl. of water per day on a 22/64-in. choke. Perforations are at 10,070-10,149 ft. 4 Cobra Oil & Gas Corp. , Wichita Falls, gauged a flow of 301 bbl. of oil and 117,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Oligocene Lower Vicksburg at the #2 Libra Unit, a discovery in Fort Bend County, Texas. According to IHS Energy Group, Cobra used a 6/64-in. choke to test through perforations at 8,652-58 ft. The discovery is in David Fitzgerald Survey, A-25. It offsets to the west the #1 Libra Unit, an 8,840-ft. wildcat drilled and abandoned by Cobra last June. 5 The #1 Phelan is a Jefferson County, Texas, discovery completed by EEX Exploration & Production Co. LP within the city limits of Beaumont. San Antonio-based EEX tested a flow of 4.729 million cu. ft. of gas and 300 bbl. of condensate per day on an adjustable choke through perforations at 9,103-13 ft. in Nodosaria blanpiedi. The new producer is located in Q.W. Beckman Survey, A-738. 6 Arkansas' Lafayette County has an 11,500-ft. Jurassic Smackover wildcat that's under way. Camterra Resources Inc. , Marshall, Texas, is drilling below 10,000 ft. at the #1 Dorfman in Section 31-19s-24w. The closest production from Smackover is nearly two miles to the southeast in Lake Erling South Field. 7 LLOG Exploration Co. , Metairie, La., was successful at two exploratory tests it drilled recently in state waters in the Main Pass area offshore Plaquemines Parish, La., says IHS Energy Group. On Block 47, the #1 State Lease 16773 discovery was completed flowing 3.129 million cu. ft. of gas and 180 bbl. of condensate per day on a 10/64-in. choke through perforations at 13,193-13,239 ft. The closest production, from Miocene at 9,988-10,008 ft., is about 3.5 miles northeast on Block 35. The second successful exploratory well is LLOG's #1 State Lease 16390 on Block 14. Cibicides carstensi, perforated at 8,841-94 ft., was tapped for a flow of 1.725 million cu. ft. of gas per day on an 8/64-in. choke. The new producer is about 0.75-mile northwest of Main Pass Block 15 Field. 8 Oligocene Hackberry was tested for a flow of 2.125 million cu. ft. of gas, 39 bbl. of condensate and 2 bbl. of water per day at the #1 Ernest E. Corbello, a discovery completed by Range Production Co. , Houston, in Calcasieu Parish, La. The well, about 2.5 miles northeast of Niblett Bluff Field in Section 36-9s-13w, flowed on an 8/64-in. choke from 9,000-28 ft. 9 Spinnaker Exploration Co. , Houston, says it's preparing to run pipe to approximately 15,300 ft. at the #3 OCS-G-15781 on High Island Block A-7, its eighth consecutive discovery in the High Island Project Area in the Gulf of Mexico. The #3 well, which explored a separate fault block from the Block A-7 Field discovery, found productive sands in Rob L-3, Lower Rob L-3 and Rob L-5 zones. Spinnaker says drilling is to be resumed to further test Lower Rob sands. Half a mile to the north, the #2 OCS-G-15781, the opener of Block A-7 Field, began producing in September and is currently making 34 million cu. ft. of gas and 58 bbl. of condensate per day, with a flowing tubing pressure of 8,000 psi. Spinnaker, the operator of Block A-7, owns a 61% working interest and a 51% net revenue interest in the #3 well. Other owners of Block A-7 include BP , with a 17.8% working interest; Fidelity Oil Holdings Inc. , 13.9%; and Black Hills Exploration & Production Inc. Forcenergy Inc. and Blue Dolphin Energy et al., own an after-payout interest in the well. 10 An exploratory well on West Delta Block 98, the Basin Exploration Inc. #A-4 OCS-G-21129, has been brought online flowing 850 bbl. of oil and 1 million cu. ft. of gas per day, according to IHS Energy Group. The Denver-based company drilled the well to a true vertical depth of 11,800 ft., encountering an estimated 37 net ft. of oil pay in Pliocene. Basin has a 75% working interest in the well and Duke Energy Hydrocarbons LLC holds the remaining 25%. 11 Walter Oil & Gas Corp. has completed a gas discovery at the #2 (ST) OCS-G-18169 on Ewing Bank Block 878. Pipe is set at 9,235 ft. at the 9,378-ft. well, in 1,523 ft. of water. The discovery lies about six miles northeast of the Mariner Energy Inc. #1 (ST) OCS-G-18184, a discovery drilled in 1,890 ft. of water on Ewing Bank Block 966. Mariner says the Black Widow well began producing in late October 2000 and is currently making approximately 10,000 bbl. of oil and 4 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Mariner is the operator and has a 69% working interest. Devon Energy Corp. , Oklahoma City, owns the remaining 31% interest. Walter and Mariner have their headquarters in Houston. 12 Houston-based BHP Petroleum (GOM) Inc. is drilling its wildcat #2 OCS-G-16987 on Walker Ridge Block 425 in a Gulf of Mexico record setting water depth of 8,835 ft., reports IHS Energy Group. BHP has drilled to 11,605 ft. and is preparing to run 20-in. casing. The #2 test is located a few feet southwest of BHP's #1 OCS-G-16987, which was abandoned last October at a depth of 11,755 ft. after casing sank below the mud line. 13 An announcement by partner Miller Exploration Co. , Houston, reveals the #1 Crosby 5-2, a discovery operated by Dallas independent Remington Oil & Gas Corp. in Covington County, Miss., was tested flowing 3.034 million cu. ft. of gas and 528 bbl. of condensate per day. Miller says the well, in Section 5-7n-14w on the flank of Eminence Dome, was tested on an 18/64-in. choke through perforations at 17,906-27 ft. in Jurassic Cotton Valley. Miller has approximately a 23% working interest in the well. Partners Remington and Key Production Co. Inc. , New Orleans, own 37.5% and 20%, respectively. Miller goes on to say that, also in Covington County, the Remington #1 Pickering wildcat in Section 32-8n-15w is drilling at 17,562 ft. and approaching the projected depth of 18,750 ft. Cretaceous Sligo and Hosston, along with Cotton Valley, are to be evaluated. Remington (38%) is operating the drilling phase and Miller (approximately 37%) will assume operations once drilling is completed. Eagle Investments owns a 20% working interest. 14 Palmer Petroleum Inc. , Shreveport, established production from Cotton Valley in Mississippi's Smithtown Field when it gauged a flow of 1.222 million cu. ft. of gas, 252 bbl. of condensate and 10 bbl. of water per day at the #1 White 31-13. The deeper-pool opener was drilled from a surface location in Section 36-6n-8w, Wayne County. Proposed bottomhole location was under Section 31-6n-7w. The well was tested on an 18/64-in. choke through perforations at 17,130-50 ft. and 17,162-72 ft., reports the Southeastern Oil Review. Previously, Smithtown Field produced from Lower Hosston and other Lower Cretaceous zones. In some of its other exploratory activity in Mississippi, Palmer is drilling below 16,180 ft. at the #1 Stanley 6-7, Section 6-5n-8w, and has staked the #1 Allar 7-1, Section 7-5n-8w, both in Greene County. The tests are each designed to evaluate Lower Cotton Valley to a depth of 18,500 ft.
