1 The Rodessa Operating #1 DCRC is a Wilcox Hinnant discovery in Duval County, Texas, that initially flowed 2.863 million cu. ft. of gas and 14 bbl. of condensate per day. The Tyler independent tested the 9,001-ft. well, in J.A. Cano Survey, A-1822, on a 14/64-in. choke through perforations at 8,816-62 ft., reports IHS Energy Group. 2 Texas' Liberty County gained two Eocene discoveries recently, one each completed by Ballard Exploration Co. Inc., Houston, and Belco Energy Corp., Dallas. Cook Mountain, perforated at 14,080-88 ft., is the producing zone at the Ballard #1 Holbrook that was completed flowing 5.453 million cu. ft. of gas, 16 bbl. of condensate and 12 bbl. of water per day on a 10/64-in. choke. The well is in H&TC RR Survey, A-270. Meanwhile, Belco tested a flow of 1.967 million cu. ft. of gas per day at its #1 Barton in John Cole Survey, A-158. The company perforated at 4,900-05 ft. in Jackson and tested on a 12/64-in. choke. 3 Flow rate was 9.65 million cu. ft. of gas, with 648 bbl. of condensate and one bbl. of water, per day at the #1 USX Hematite, an Oligocene Frio discovery completed by Vintage Petroleum Co. Inc. in Chambers County, Texas. Tulsa-based Vintage tested on a 17/64-in. choke through perforations at 10,355-84 ft. at the well, in William D. Smith Survey, A-23. 4 Anadarko Petroleum Corp.'s #3 Lancaster "A" yielded 26 million cu. ft. of gas per day, the highest rate of flow recorded to date of the dozens of wells completed by the company in its Jurassic Bossier Sand play in Freestone County, Texas. The Houston independent drilled to a total depth of 13,377 ft. at the new producer in William H. Vickers Survey, A-628. This year, Anadarko plans to continue its program in the Dew/Mimms Creek Field area, which will include adding to the approximately 70,000 acres the company now has under lease. 5 Sklar-Tex LLC, Shreveport, set pipe at a total depth of 9,400 ft. and is waiting on a completion rig at the #1 Jackson, an indicated discovery in Henry Dawson Survey, A-169, Limestone County, Texas. IHS Energy Group reports the prospect is about a half-mile southwest of a 10,835-ft. well that was tested flowing 1 million cu. ft. of gas per day from Lower Cretaceous Travis Peak at 6,992-7,004 ft., but was subsequently abandoned. 6 Drilling depth is below 7,900 ft. at the Samedan Oil Corp. #1H Mitchell, a horizontal wildcat in Sanford Holman Survey, A-128, San Augustine County, Texas. Samedan, based in Ardmore, Okla., plans to drill to a measured depth of 13,929 ft. to evaluate Lower Cretaceous James Lime. The venture is being drilled out of a test that was abandoned at a vertical depth of 13,764 ft. Samedan expects to enter the top of the pay at a measured depth of 8,469 ft., or 7,725 ft. true vertical depth. 7 Jurassic Smackover is the objective of a Columbia County, Ark., wildcat being drilled by Denver independent Ensign Operating Co. The #1-4 McMurtrey, Section 14-19s-20w, is scheduled to go to a depth of 10,500 ft. The closest production from Smackover is about two miles to the southwest in Haynesville Field. The new venture offsets to the northeast a test completed in 1950 as a 5,654-ft. dry hole. 8 Development wells with high rates of flow are in the spotlight in Louisiana. In Rapides Parish, Swift Energy Co., Houston, gauged a flow of 2,400 bbl. of oil and 10.3 million cu. ft. of gas per day at the horizontal #1 Swenco in Section 18-1s-4w, Masters Creek Field. The dual-lateral well, which has a true vertical depth of 14,700 ft., was tested on a 26/64-in. choke in Upper Cretaceous Austin Chalk. Jefferson Davis Parish is the site of the #1 Potter that was finaled by Manti Operating Co., Corpus Christi, flowing 17.48 million cu. ft. of gas per day. According to interest owner The Meridian Resource Corp., Houston, testing was carried out on a 19/64-in. choke through perforations between 11,658-11,728 ft. in Oligocene Marg Idio Sand. Meridian is assuming operation of the well. A third well with a high rate of flow-1,363 bbl. of oil and 4.6 million cu. ft. of gas per day-is the Xplor Energy Operating Inc. #1 State Lease 1480 in Section 21-22s-21e, Lafourche Parish. The Lake Raccourci Field well is producing through perforations at 13,973-78 ft. in Bol 3 Sand, reports 40% working interest owner Harken Energy Corp., Irving, Texas. 9 TMR Exploration Inc., Bossier City, La., is drilling below 10,000 ft. toward a projected depth of 10,800 ft. in Lower Cretaceous Hosston at the #1 Reeves/Rugg Corp. in Webster Parish, La. IHS Energy Group notes the wildcat is in Section 27-17n-9w, about two miles northwest of Hosston gas/condensate production in Jamestown Field. 10 Production has been reestablished on South Marsh Island Block 261 in the Gulf of Mexico, the result of work carried out by Callon Petroleum Co., Natchez, Miss., at the #1 OCS-G-16337. The discovery had a combined flow of 20.4 million cu. ft. of gas per day from two zones. It flowed 10.3 million cu. ft. of gas per day on a 25/64-in. choke through perforations at 5,410-50 ft. and 10.1 million cu. ft. per day on a 24/64-in. choke through perforations at 5,678-5,714 ft. 11 PetroQuest Energy Inc., Lafayette, La., logged 285 ft. of hydrocarbon column (135 ft. net pay) in six sands at its indicated discovery the #2 OCS-G-14428 on Vermilion Block 376. According to IHS Energy Group, PetroQuest has a 43% working interest in the apparent discovery, with the remainder of the ownership made up of private companies. The wildcat, known as the Falcon Prospect, lies in 305 ft. of water. 12 Up to eight tests are planned by Union Oil Co. of California on Alaminos Canyon blocks 903 and 947. According to the Initial Plan of Exploration, the first test will be drilled in 9,743 ft. of water in the southeastern portion of Block 903. Three additional locations are proposed for Block 903 as well as four more tests for Block 947 to the south. 13 McMoRan Exploration Co., New Orleans, and Texaco have announced the signing of an agreement that will grant McMoRan the right to explore all or parts of 90 of Texaco's Gulf of Mexico tracts, including seven leases in Louisiana state waters. The tracts encompass a total of 391,349 gross acres and are in water depths ranging from 10 ft. to 2,600 ft. In addition to approximately 400 unexplored deepwater blocks, Texaco retains its ongoing shelf producing operations as well as certain development zones not included in the agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, McMoRan will commit in excess of $100 million for exploration drilling during the next four years. McMoRan has incentives to meet the agreed-upon level of activity in each of the specified time periods throughout the four-year span. McMoRan will be the operator and may earn various interests in the exploration tracts. Texaco will retain rights to participate in the opportunities McMoRan elects to drill. 14 Flow gauge was 312 bbl. of oil and 477,000 cu. ft. of gas per day at a new-field opener completed by Roundtree & Associates Inc., Jackson, in Covington County, Miss. According to the Southeastern Oil Review, Roundtree's #1 Robertson 21-9, Section 21-8n-14w, is producing from Jurassic Cotton Valley, perforated at 17,976-97 ft. A recommended is that the new producing area be named Northeast Collins Field. And, in Mississippi's Jones County, the company tested more than 650 bbl. of oil per day on a 22/64-in. choke from 13,800-14,044 ft. in Hosston at #1 Frost 5-11 in Section 5-6n-15w. Roundtree continues to evaluate the pay at the well, located on the south flank of Parker Creek Field. 15 New deep exploratory drilling scheduled in Mississippi includes three 19,000-ft. wildcats and one that's to go to 18,000 ft., reports IHS Energy Group. Covington County is to get one of the 19,000-ft. ventures-#1 Miller-Fairchild-to be drilled as a Hosston test by Miller Exploration Co., Traverse City, Mich., in Section 22-6n-15w. Houston independent Rebel Drilling Co. has obtained drilling permits for the other two 19,000-ft. projects, both in Wayne County and both scheduled tests of Smackover. They are the #1 Big Cedar in Section 5-7n-6w and the #1 Hilltop in Section 8-7n-6w. Also in Wayne County, about a mile northwest of Rebel's tests, is the drill site for the 18,000-ft. wildcat. It's Covington, La.-based NorthStar Energy LLC's #1 Daws 6-8 in Section 6-7n-6w.
