Golar’s floating LNG (FLNG) facility offshore Mauritania and Senegal, FLNG Gimi, reached its commercial operations date, the partners behind the project announced June 23.
FLNG Gimi has ramped up its operations to meet annually contracted volumes of about 2.4 million tons per annum. The project filled its first cargo on April 17.
Reaching its commercial operations date means the project now falls under the terms of a 20-year lease and operating agreement with BP. FLNG Gimi is part of BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project. The facility, which is shipping LNG out of Mauritania and Senegal for the first time, is a BP-led joint venture with partners Kosmos, Petrosen and SMH.
According to its announcement, Golar will now accelerate work on its next two FLNG units.
