John Brawley, executive vice president and CFO of Maverick Natural Resources LLC, is today’s featured Forty Under 40 honoree.
Maverick Natural Resources is a Houston-based E&P focused on the development and production of long-lived oil and gas reserves throughout the U.S. The company emerged from the restructuring of its predecessor and large public MLP, Breitburn Energy Partners, in 2018 as majority-owned and controlled by funds and accounts managed by EIG Global Energy Partners.
Brawley said Maverick has undertaken the term “transformation” more literally.
“Transformation for us is a defined term used by management consultants which changes every way in which a modern oil and gas company operates. ... We had to completely change the company’s culture and drive performance to achieve the industry-leading cost efficiency we have today,” he said.
Prior to joining Maverick, Brawley held numerous senior leadership roles in public companies, including CFO of both midstream and upstream companies. He also previously served as co-head of the Guggenheim Houston office.
According to Brawley, he “became CFO of a company the scale of Maverick sooner than expected and did so with a broader array of responsibility than typical for a CFO,” which includes A&D, M&A, finance, accounting, marketing, reservoir engineering and its IT functions.
Brawley recently led Maverick’s divestiture of almost $200 million of assets at valuations he said were “significantly higher than proved producing present value in one of the toughest A&D markets in recent history.”
