Five Point Infrastructure LLC has formed PowerBridge LLC with a $1 billion equity commitment to develop and manage gigawatt-scale data centers, the company said May 15.
The newly-formed company will also manage associated power infrastructure and power connectivity throughout North America.
PowerBridge is positioned to benefit from affiliate LandBridge’s access to more than 275,000 surface acres for infrastructure development and low cost Waha natural gas, as well as FivePoint backer and water management company WaterBridge’s ability to address data center cooling needs.
"The formation of PowerBridge adds another important component to our powered land strategy,” David Capobianco, CEO and Managing Partner of Five Point, said in the announcement. “Together with Landbridge, WaterBridge, our deep institutional relationships and track record of building critical infrastructure companies, PowerBridge is well positioned to create best-in-class data, power and fiber solutions for data center customers."
PowerBridge is led by CEO Alex Hernandez, the former founder and CEO of Cumulus Data before it was acquired by Amazon Web Services in 2024. He also formerly served as the CEO of Talen Energy Corp. and currently serves on the board of ERCOT.
The PowerBridge team is made up of former Cumulus executives. It’s the only team to successfully develop and deliver a gigawatt-scale data center campus connected to wholesale power generation assets without a grid connection.
