A Kinder Morgan (KMI) Texas-Louisiana expansion project meant to help satiate the growing natural gas demand along the Gulf Coast got federal approval on Nov. 21.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved a permit for Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America’s Texas-Louisiana Expansion Project, which will add about 467 MMcf/d of capacity to a network close to the LNG and gas processing centers along the states’ coastline.
Natural Gas Pipeline is a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan. According to the FERC permit ruling, KMI expects the project to cost about $71.98 million. The certificate grants KMI two years to complete the project.
The project will expand the network through new or upgraded compressors on the network and a new connection to KMI’s Louisiana Line, which will add 300 MMcf/d to the project through existing unused capacity.
According to the FERC ruling, KMI submitted an application for the project in 2022. The firm has since signed precedent agreements for capacity with Golden Pass LNG, Devon Gas Services and Delfin Midstream.
