EOG Resources Inc. promoted Jeffrey R. “Jeff” Leitzell to executive vice president of E&P joining the headquarters executive management team in Houston from the company’s field office in the Permian Basin.

Previously, Leitzell oversaw operations in the Delaware Basin located in West Texas and southeast New Mexico as vice president and general manager of EOG’s Midland, Texas office since December 2017.

“Jeff has done an exceptional job leading the continued development of EOG’s Delaware Basin assets,” commented EOG’s CEO and chairman, William R. "Bill" Thomas, in a statement.

“Under his leadership, EOG significantly increased activity in the Delaware Basin adding more than three times the inventory than has been drilled, while also demonstrating industry leadership in water reuse, flaring reduction and methane emissions reduction technology to minimize EOG’s environmental footprint,” Thomas continued.

In his new role, Leitzell will be responsible for EOG’s Midland, Denver and Artesia operating areas, according to the company release. He joins Ken Boedeker, who also serves as executive vice president of E&P for the company.

EOG Resources, one of the largest crude oil and natural gas exploration and production companies in the U.S., also operates in the Eagle Ford Shale as well as the Bakken/Three Forks and Woodford shale plays.

During the company’s recent earnings call, the EOG executive team noted a shift to so-called “double-premium” wells. With assets spanning the U.S., including the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford, EOG said it has more than 5,700 double premium locations, which it equates to over 10 years of drilling inventory.

Leitzell, whose promotion was effective immediately, has 17 years of industry experience and almost 13 years of service with EOG.

Prior to serving as vice president and general manager of EOG’s Midland office, Leitzell served as operations manager from 2015 to 2017. He joined EOG in 2008 as a completions engineer and has also held various engineering roles of increasing responsibility in multiple EOG offices.
