Enbridge is alerting communities of its planned 300 MMcf/d capacity expansion of a key natural gas pipeline system on the Canadian West Coast.

Representatives of the Canadian midstream company met with the board of directors for the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George on June 19, according to reports from the Prince George Citizen News.

The Westcoast Pipeline System is a 1,800-mile transmission line running north to south near the coastline. The southern end terminates close to Vancouver on the southern border to the U.S.

The project, called the Sunrise Expansion, is proposed for the T-South segment of the system, or most of the southern portion of the line. The work includes looping parts of the line by adding 85 miles of 48-inch diameter pipeline along much of the established route, as well as adding compression at several existing compression stations.

At the June 19 meeting, Enbridge said the project could bring up to 850 workers to the area during construction.

The Canada Energy Regulator has scheduled a final decision on the project for February 2026. Enbridge has targeted the second quarter of 2026 to begin construction and late 2028 for the in-service date.
