Enbridge Inc. said May 26 it will advance the construction of a natural gas pipeline to Venture Global’s Plaquemines LNG facility in Louisiana.
The announcement follows Venture Global’s final investment decision (FID) on May 25 to build the $13.2 billion project. Plaquemines is the first U.S. LNG project to reach FID since Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass in August 2019.
“Enbridge is excited to continue working with Venture Global on their second LNG project to bring clean, reliable natural gas to the U.S. Gulf Coast for export to global markets,” Cynthia Hansen, Enbridge Executive Vice President and President, Gas Transmission & Midstream, commented in a company release on May 26.
The first phase of Venture Global’s 20 million tonne per annum (mtpa) Plaquemines LNG project will produce about 13.3 mtpa of LNG or 1.75 Bcf/d of natural gas.
Enbridge said on May 26 it is aiming to provide transportation capacity of 1.5 Bcf/d of natural gas via two Texas Eastern Transmission LP projects to the Plaquemines LNG facility. These include the Venice Extension Project and Gator Express Meter Project.
“Our Texas Eastern system is ideally positioned to supply growing North American LNG exports, which are essential to meeting society's energy security and climate change goals,” Hansen added.
The projects generally will involve 36-inch diameter pipe, metering and compressor station additions and improvements, according to the Enbrige release.
The Gator Express Meter Project is expected to be in service in 2023 and Venice Extension Project is expected to be in service in 2024, with an estimated cost for both projects of $400 million, which the company said is underpinned by long-term take or pay contracts.
