1 Midland, Texas-based Clayton W. Williams Jr. plans a deep, remote wildcat in nonproducing Webster County, Miss. When the independent drills the 15,000-ft. #1 Weyerhaeuser in Section 11-21n-10e, about 6.5 miles north-northeast of Walthall, it will be only the fifth well drilled in the county. The nearest producer is in Oktibbeha County, about 15 miles south-southeast in Maben Field, where a directional sidetrack completed last July flowed 1.4 million cu. ft. of gas per day from Knox between 15,495 and 15,594 ft. 2 Dragon Energy Corp., New Orleans, is drilling a wildcat scheduled to 15,000 ft. in northwestern Escambia County, Ala. The company's #1 ATIC "16-5," in Section 16-3n-7e, will reach for Smackover a few hundred feet from the surface location. Only one other well has been drilled in the section, a half-mile east. The nearest producing well is nearly a mile northeast in Canaan Church West Field, where the #1 ATIC "10-13" in Section 10 flowed 312 bbl. of oil daily from Smackover between 14,040-50 ft. That well had produced 585,342 bbl. of oil, 1 billion cu. ft. of gas and 236,591 bbl. of water between first production in 1996 and last June. 3 Legacy Resources Co. LP, Mandeville, La., completed its #3 State Lease 347 wildcat in state waters offshore Mobile County, Ala., for 1.75 million cu. ft. of gas and four bbl. of water a day. The well, on Mobile Offshore Block 76, produced through perforations between 1,752-68 ft. in Miocene on a 20/64-in. choke with 420 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The company's #2 State Lease 534 in Block 62, immediately north, flowed 3 million cu. ft. of gas and 10 bbl. of water daily, also from Miocene, according to IHS Energy. 4 Independent J.J. Dodge, Springfield, Ill., has permitted a 1,600-ft. wildcat in Section 5-3s-3w in northeastern Pike County, Ill., more than three miles north-northwest of Perry. The target for the #1 Greiwe is Knox. The well is nearly five miles south of Buckhorn Consolidated Field. That field has produced 2.12 million bbl. of oil from Silurian at about 675 ft. Previous dry holes near the Dodge well all were drilled to shallow Silurian. The nearest deeper well was a 2,025-ft. dry hole drilled to Cambrian in Section 4-3e-3w, nearly two miles east-northeast. 5 A new-field wildcat has been scheduled to Herrin Coal at 600 ft. in Franklin County, Ill., by Mount Vernon, Ill., independent Demier Oil Co. The company's #M1-1 Zeigler is in Section 29-7s-2e, nearly 2.25 miles north of the town of Freeman Spur. It also is a mile west of Zeigler Southeast Field, which produces from McClosky. 6 Quicksilver Resources Inc., Fort Worth, continues to work its play in southern Indiana's Harrison County, scheduling four wildcats and two development wells to Ordovician at 1,000 ft. The company has permitted the #C4-9 Schilmiller wildcat in Section 9-2s-4e, slightly more than 4.5 miles north of Crandall. It also has permitted the #A3-34 Engleman wildcat in Section 3-3s-3e, almost 3.25 miles west of Corydon. It plans two wildcats in 4s-3e, said IHS Energy. The #D1-15 Windell is in Section 15 and the #B4-32 Reeder is in Section 32. Additionally, the company's #D-16 Sanders development well is in White Cloud Field in Section 16-3s-3e, while the #D2-1 Walther development well is in Section 1-4s-4e in New Middleton Field. 7 Continental Resources Illinois Inc., Mount Vernon, Ill., has permitted the #1 Lakeland Farms wildcat to Devonian at 3,600 ft., about five miles northwest of Rockport in Spencer County, Ind. The well, in Section 18-7s-6w, will look for oil about a mile west of Rock Hill West Field, which produces from Aux Vases. 8 Pittsburgh-based Ardent Resources Inc. has staked a remote wildcat a mile northwest of Munnsville in eastern Madison County, N.Y. The #1 Meeker is scheduled to 4,000 ft. in Section A, Munnsville Quad, Stockbridge Township, about 9.5 miles north of Lebanon Field, which produces gas from Lower Silurian Oneida. Farther north, the company plans to drill the #1 Wagner wildcat to a projected depth of 3,500 ft. to the Oneida formation in Oneida County, N.Y. The planned gas well is in Section I, Vernon Quad, Vernon Township, more than 13.25 miles north of Lebanon Field and more than three miles south of the town of Vernon. 9 Riding a wave of success with its 18-million-cu.-ft.-per-day #1 Andrews in Steuben County, N.Y., the Fortuna Energy Inc. subsidiary of Calgary-based Talisman Energy Inc. plans another deep well in Schuyler County northeast. The #1 Towner wildcat is projected to Marcellus shale at 12,500 ft. in Section E, Bradford Quad, Orange Township, some three miles southwest of Bath. The company completed its #1 Andrews discovery at 10,100 ft. in the Upper Black River. Fortuna plans to spend some $85 million in deep drilling this year, mostly on 11 horizontal Trenton-Black River wells. The #1 Towner well is vertical, according to an IHS Energy report. 10 East Resources Inc., Wexford, Pa., has permitted an 11,400-ft. wildcat to Trenton-Black River six miles southwest of West Elmira, N.Y., in southwestern Chemung County. The #1 Harvey was staked in Seeley Creek Quad, Southport Township, about eight miles south of Trenton-Black River gas production in Quackenbush Hill Field. East Resources still is keeping information tight about its previously drilled #1 Curren in the same quad and township. The well reached a total depth of approximately 11,491 ft. 11 Texas Keystone Inc., Pittsburgh, is working a series of wildcats in Wilpen Quad, Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pa. All four wells target Balltown A Sand at 4,000 ft. The #2 Richard Gibson, in Section C, is 4.3 miles south of Bolivar. The other three wells, all in Section E, are the #2 John Graham, the #1 James West and the #5 James West, between 4.8 miles and six miles south of Bolivar, according to IHS Energy. 12 Two Greene County wildcats are on the drawing board for By Energy Inc., Waynesburg, Pa., both in Section B, Mather Quad, Morgan Township, about a mile northwest of Clarksville, Pa. The company's #1 Pechin Leasing is about 2.7 miles south of Zollarsville Field, and the #2 Pechin Leasing is another 0.25-mile south. Both wells will assess Devonian at 3,500 ft. 13 Pennsylvania General Energy Corp., Warren, Pa., will drill to Needmore Shale at 7,000 ft. at two wildcats staked in Section G, Mench Quad, Monroe Township, in Bedford County, Pa. The #1663 Clark is about 7.5 miles south of Everett, while the #1664 Clark is slightly more than nine miles south of the same city. 14 Waco Oil & Gas Co., Glenville, W.Va., plans a five-well wildcat program in Marion County in northern West Virginia. All five of the wells are projected to Balltown at 4,100 ft. in Lincoln District, Shinnston Quad, and all five wells are less than a mile from the town of Worthington. The #1574 Fay is more than a half-mile southwest of the city. The #1577 Clemens, #1578 Clemens, #1579 Clemens and #1580 Clemens range from east to northwest about a half-mile from the city. Nearby fields produce from Keener, Big Injun and Thirty-Foot Sand. 15 A couple of wildcats are in the works in Kanawha County, W.Va., for Northstar Energy, Dunbar, W.Va. Both the #BM-5 Marmet and #BM-6 Marmet will evaluate Berea gas at 3,500 ft. in Louden District, Belle Quad, IHS Energy said. The #BM-5 well is 3.4 miles south of the town of Marmet and 1.1 miles southwest of an unnamed field that produces from Big Injun. The #BM-6 well is more than 0.25-mile farther south, and 1.2 miles north of Kanawha Forest Field, which produces from Big Lime. 16 Overton County, Tenn., expects action as Ohio Kentucky Oil Corp., Lexington, Ky., has permitted three wells. The #1-A Linton Reed is an outpost well in Section 6-4s-53e, and the #2-A Linton Reed is considered a wildcat in the same section. Both seek oil and gas in Monteagle at 2,000 ft. in Obey City Quad, and both are about 8.8 miles northeast of Monterey, Tenn. The company also has scheduled a development well, the #3 Harold Upchurch, to Knox at 2,000 ft. in Section 1-2s-52e in Alpine Quad. 17 Knox Energy LLC, Bluefield, Va., has an aggressive drilling program in Anderson County, Tenn., all in Township 5s-62e. The #CC-1027 Coal Creek Mining & Manufacturing will assess Monteagle at 4,000 ft. in Section 18 in Petros Quad, nearly six miles northwest of Oliver Springs. The #CC-1028 Coal Creek Mining & Manufacturing will look at Pennsylvanian at 4,500 ft. in Section 22 in Windrock Quad, and the #CC-2010 Coal Creek Mining & Manufacturing will evaluate Pennsylvania at 4,450 ft. in the same quad. Both of the Windrock Quad wells are less than five miles northwest of Oliver Springs. Knox also has a wildcat planned in Morgan County. There, the #JA-1001 Joseph A. James Sr. is permitted to Mississippian at 4,200 ft. in Section 20-6s-60e, about four miles northeast of Oakdale, according to IHS Energy.
