1 Amerada Hess Corp., New York City, plans a wildcat on its Amazon prospect in the eastern Gulf of Mexico in DeSoto Canyon Block 620. The company could drill up to four wells on separate locations on the eastern half of the tract in water between 8,069-93 ft. deep. Hess owns 40% of the prospect; Dominion Exploration & Production Inc. has 40%; and Spinnaker Exploration Co. holds the remaining 20%. Anadarko Petroleum plans a five-well program on adjacent Block 621, and Shell Offshore Inc. plans as many as five wells on separate locations on Block 622. 2 Houston-based Denbury Resources Inc. brought in a development well in Goshen Springs Field, in Section 15-7n-4e, Rankin County, Miss., flowing 29.3 million cu. ft. of gas a day. The well produced from Norphlet between 16,056 and 16,132 ft. through a 100/64-in. choke with 3,175 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Denbury drilled the well to 16,428 ft. and set 65/8-in. liner to 16,275 ft. The field has produced 150.4 billion cu. ft. of gas and 3,703 bbl. of water since it came onstream in 1981. Denbury plans further tests in the area, including the #1 Barksdale 5-9 in Section 5 of the same township. That well was being drilled at press time. 3 Shoreline Partners LLC, Houston, is drilling ahead at its Shoreline-Aultman #30-6 field extension well in Oakvale West Field, Section 30-6n-19w, Jefferson Davis County, Miss. The well is projected to Hosston at 16,700 ft. Two Oakvale Dome Field wells on a separate fault block a mile southeast have produced more than 16.4 billion cu. ft. of gas and 46,500 bbl of oil from Hosston. 4 Zinke & Trumbo Inc., Tulsa, plans a remote wildcat to the Smackover formation in northwestern Okaloosa County, Fla. All of the previous 19 wells in the county were abandoned. The #34-2 Duggan et al., in Section 34-3n-24w, is scheduled to 17,000 ft. with a bottomhole location nearly a mile north-northwest in the same section. The nearest production is 22 miles north-northeast in McLellan Field. The #34-2 State of Florida has produced 108,187 bbl. of oil, 47.5 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 186,601 bbl. of water from Smackover between 1987 and last October, says IHS Energy. 5 Savoy Energy LP, Traverse City, Mich., plans an 11,435-ft. wildcat targeting Prairie du Chien in Section 8-25n-1w in South Branch Township, Crawford County, Mich. The company will drill its #1-8 USA & State-South Branch directionally to a bottomhole location at 11,435 ft. in Section 7 of the same township. The well is about eight miles northeast of Roscommon, Mich., and two miles north-northeast of the Prairie du Chien discovery well in Hickey Creek Field. 6 Fayette County, Ill., is the site of a remote 3,000-ft. Silurian wildcat. RK Petroleum Corp., Midland, staked its #1 Carl Chrisman in Section 15-6n-1w. The township has been lightly drilled and has no producing wells. The closest production is seven miles west in Woburn Consolidated Field, which was discovered 63 years ago. That field produces from Cypress, Benoist, Renault, Aux Vases, Lingle and Trenton at depths to 3,175 ft. 7 Quicksilver Resources Inc., Fort Worth, has a series of wildcats scheduled in Harrison County, Ind. All six wells will target Ordovician at 1,050 ft. The #B2-19 Kopp is in irregular Section 19-4s-4e; the #A2-31 Kitterman is in Section 31-4s-4e; the #A3-21 Hubbard is in Section 21-4s-3e; the #A2-29 Watson is in Section 29-4s-3e; the #C3-32 Reeder is in Section 32-4s-3e; and the D2-4 Watson is in Section 4-5s-3e. 8 A pair of wildcats will take a look at the Trenton formation in Wayne County, N.Y. Triana Energy Inc., Charleston, W.Va., has scheduled the 3,750-ft. #1 Harper in Section A, Savannah Quad, Galen Township, about a mile east of an unnamed Trenton field and about 2.5 miles east of Clyde, N.Y. The #1 Hughes will go to 3,755 ft. in Section B of the same quad. It is about three miles east of Clyde. Both are vertical wells. 9 In Steuben County, N.Y., Pennsylvania General Energy Inc., Warren, Pa., claimed a discovery at its #1371A Fratarcangelo, drilled a little more than seven miles north of Big Flats. The well tested at 10.7 million cu. ft. of gas per day from perforations between 9,660 and 9,702 ft. and from 7,714 and 9,738 ft. in Trenton/Black River. The well is in Section A of Big Flats Quad, Hornby Township, more than two miles northeast of Corning North Field, which produces from Oriskany. In the same county, Columbia Natural Resources Inc. reported a test flow of 3.4 million cu. ft. of gas a day from its #624546-A Hartman discovery, also from Trenton/Black River. Columbia drilled the well to 10,200 ft., acidized and fractured perforations between 9,884 and 9,910 ft. and between 9,974-94 ft. That well is in Section F, Corning Quad, Corning Township. 10 Belden & Blake Corp., North Canton, Ohio, plans three deep Oriskany wells about 20 miles west of Pittsburgh in Washington County, Pa. The #1 Starvaggi is in Section H, Burgettstown Quad, Hanover Township. It is projected to 11,610 ft. The #1 Fairground Unit is scheduled to 12,500 ft. in Section C, Valley Grove Quad, Donegal Township. The company drilled its #1 Casagranda to 11,500 ft. about a mile southwest, but hasn't released any information. Also in Washington County, Great Lakes Energy has scheduled the #1 Molnar Unit and #2 Molnar Unit wildcats to Oriskany at 11,000 ft., both more than five miles west of Middletown, says IHS Energy. 11 Atlas Resources Inc., Moon Township, Pa., plans to drill two wildcats in Fayette County, Pa. The #8 Porter wildcat is projected to Big Injun at 5,000 ft. The well is in Section C, Carmichaels Quad, Luzerne Township, about a mile north of Luzerne Field, which produces from Big Injun, according to IHS Energy. Also on the company's schedule is the #8 Moore, scheduled to Devonian at 5,000 ft. That test is in Section B of the same quad. Atlas has plans for additional development wells in nearby Waltersburg, Flatwoods and Luzerne fields. 12 MegaEnergy Operating Inc., Englewood, Colo., has staked a 7,200-ft Oriskany/Tuscarora wildcat some six miles northwest of Thomas in Tucker County, W.Va. The #A-1 Smith is in St. George District, Lead Mine Quad, in the Monongahela National Forest. Mega drilled the #A-1 Coleman to Tuscarora about 1.5 miles southwest last year, but has not released any details about the well. It has drilled a series of Tuscarora/Oriskany tests in recent years. According to IHS Energy, the company topped all bidders with an $80-per-acre offer for a 1,374.39-acre lease in Monongahela National Forest in Tucker County. 13 Walter E. Smith plans the #2 Yoak wildcat to Devonian at 5,800 ft. in Sherman District, Grantsville Quad, in Calhoun County. W.Va., a little more than two miles northeast of Grantsville. 14 A new field, Darty Gap, has been found in Harlan County, Ky., by Equitable Production Co. The Charleston-based operator tested the #K-504894 Pardee Resources Group Inc. at 1.5 million cu. ft. a day from commingled zones in the Big Lime between 4,288 and 4,412 ft.; Weir between 4,513 and 4,718 ft.; Berea/Cleveland from 4,890 to 5,046 ft.; and Lower Huron from 5,195 to 5,323 ft. The company stimulated the well with an acid frac. The well site is in Keokee Quad. 15 Daugherty Petroleum Inc., Lexington, Ky., plans the #2 Knuckles Enterprises Inc. wildcat to Clinton at 4,000 ft. in Bell County, Ky. The well is in Middlesboro North Quad, about three miles southeast of Pineville and 4.5 miles northwest of an unnamed Devonian Shale field. The company also plans the #3 Knuckles Enterprises Inc. in the same quad and the #10 Bill Sharp et al. Unit in Artemus Quad. 16 Knox Energy LLC, Bluefield, Va., will drill the #1020 Coal Creek wildcat to 5,850 ft. in Fork Mountain Quad, some 7.75 miles northwest of Oliver Springs in Anderson County, Tenn. The well is 2.75 miles north of an unnamed field that produces from Monteagle.
