Devon Energy Corp. appointed Michael Mears and Gennifer Kelly to its board of directors, the company announced in a press release on Jan. 3.
Following the appointments, along with board chair Dave Hager's retirement effective Jan. 7, Devon's board will be comprised of 12 members, 10 of whom are independent, the company stated.
Prior to joining the board, Mears served as president, chairman and CEO of Magellan Midstream Partners, while Kelly served as senior vice president and COO of Western Midstream Partners. Mears will be a member of the governance, environmental and public policy committee, and Kelly will be a member of the reserves committee. Both members will serve on the audit committee.
"Michael and Gennifer will bring a diverse range of perspectives and backgrounds to our board deliberations,” chair-designate Barbara Baumann commented in the release. “They will provide valuable insight to Devon as it continues its industry leadership."
Mears retired from Magellan in April 2022 after joining in 2002, serving as COO from 2008 to 2011 before becoming president, chairman and CEO. Prior to Magellan, he held several management positions at Williams Pipeline Co. before Magellan's formation.
Kelly served as Anadarko Petroleum Corp.'s vice president of marketing, where she led strategic planning, portfolio management and asset management teams before joining Western Midstream Partners.
Mears is currently a member of Sempra's board, while Kelly currently serves on Delek Logistics' board.
"I am excited about the opportunity to work closely with Michael and Gennifer,” president and CEO Rick Muncrief added. “Their industry insights and proven leadership will be invaluable for Devon as we continue to build long-term shareholder value."
