Commonwealth LNG announced that Malaysian national oil and gas company Petronas signed a 20-year contract for up to 1 million tons a year (mtpa) of LNG, the second Asian company that has signed on as a customer since May.

On May 5, Commonwealth announced the deal but did not name Petronas as the customer. On June 11, Commonwealth announced it was one of four LNG facilities that would supply Japanese utility JERA.

Kimmeridge-owned Commonwealth LNG will be a 9.5 mtpa facility on the Calcasieu channel near Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The company expects to make a final investment decision in the third quarter of 2025 and begin production in 2029.

“We are excited to collaborate with PETRONAS, a trusted LNG supplier with decades of expertise,” said Commonwealth LNG President and CEO Farhad Ahrabi.
