Oilfield technology company ChampionX said its Emissions Technologies’ Aerial Optical Gas Imaging (AOGI) platform has received an approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for regulatory compliance.
The AOGI has been approved for the methane alternative test method outlined in Subpart OOOOb, which establishes standards and compliance schedules for greenhouse gas emissions at crude oil and natural gas facilities.
“As the first component-level platform approved by the EPA, AOGI represents a new standard in emissions monitoring,” ChampionX CEO Sivasankaran Somasundaram said. “This advanced method enables operators to monitor emissions to assist operators in taking action to meet regulatory requirements efficiently while seamlessly integrating into their existing workflows.”
The AOGI platform can survey more than 150 sites per day. It combines optical gas imaging technology with an advanced gimbal system to find methane leaks. The technology can be used by handheld, fixed, drone and aerial systems. Operators can also integrate it into their existing emissions monitoring programs.
