The British Columbia provincial government confirmed the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission natural gas pipeline project is "substantially started."
The province’s office made the announcement June 5. The 560-mile PRGT project will terminate on Lelu Island on Canada’s west coast, where it will supply the proposed Ksi Lisims LNG facility, which is still under review by the government.
Western LNG and the Nisga’a Nation acquired the line from TC Energy in March 2024. The JV intends to reroute the pipeline from its current termination point at Pearse Island to the proposed LNG facility.
The declaration of “substantially started” is key for the project. The government required work on the project to begin by the end of 2024 or the pipeline’s permit would be invalidated.
The pipeline will have a designed capacity of 2 Bcf/d. The Ksi Lisims LNG facility is designed to produce about 12 million tonnes per year and begin production by 2030.
