Callon Petroleum Co. will implement multiple Dual Drive compressors from USA Compression Partners LP at its Eagle Ford locations, a press release announced on Aug. 1.
USA Compression's services will allow Callon to significantly decrease its operational greenhouse-gas emissions through compression services powered by either natural gas or electricity.
Through the Dual Drive Compression system, operators can combine a natural gas-driven engine with an electric-driven motor to quickly and reliably switch from natural gas to electricity depending on operating constraints to compress natural gas.
Operators will yield lower operating expenses, increased reliability, improved runtime, reduced CO2 and methane emissions and optimized fuel costs as a result.
“The addition of the Dual Drive technology in our operations will help us advance our sustainability initiatives, especially in reducing CO2 emissions as we expand the field electrification and other system upgrades," Callon CEO Joe Gatto commented in the release.
"We expect Dual Drive to play an important role allowing Callon to continue to reduce our fuel usage and lower our GHG [greenhouse-gas] emissions and overall carbon footprint.”
Dual Drive Technologies received the 2012 award for Best Available Control Technology from the Environmental Protection Agency and the 2009 Innovative Technologies Award from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, both to recognize emission reductions in the industry.
Additionally, in 2021, the system received the Environmental Excellence Award from the GPA’s Midstream Environmental Committee.
"With this service offering, USAC is continuing its history of innovation by taking the next logical step in compression: the ability to provide dual fuel source optionality and thereby operational redundancy in times of disruption and further serving as a service solution that takes advantage of the continued build-out of the electric grid,” USA Compression president and CEO Eric D. Long added.
