Sustainable energy company Avangrid Inc. is set to provide upgrades for Eversource’s Cape Cod Solution Phase 1 grid upgrade in Bourne, Massachusetts, according to a May 22 press release.
As part of a Transmission Support Agreement and Large Generator Interconnection Agreement with Eversource, Avangrid will provide the New England Wind 1 project with more than $13.7 million in funding for grid upgrades.
Located in federal lease area OCS-A 0534 in Massachusetts, the New England Wind 1 project will convert the line connecting the Bourne Switching Station and the West Barnstable Substation into a 345-kilovolt (kv) transmission line. The new line will initially be operated at 115 kv until the proper infrastructure at Bourne and West Barnstable is built as part of Phase II of New England Wind 1’s grid upgrades.
Additionally, Avangrid entered into a Host Community Agreement with the town of Barnstable for the New England Wind 1 project to make landfall at Craigville Beach and connect the power to the Eversource substation in West Barnstable.
