Opinion: Huge Opportunity for UK Experience in Growing US Offshore Wind

The U.S. offshore wind industry is in the early stages of development, but with an ambitious target of 30 GW of installed capacity by 2030, with some states going further, it is set to make a major impact on the global offshore wind industry.

While early projects will be executed primarily by experienced developers and Tier 1 suppliers from Europe, the trend will be the creation of a US-based supply chain. The volume of work cannot be met efficiently or economically without a high degree of U.S. support in all phases of project execution and operations.

Working on behalf of the British Consulate in Boston, Xodus recently analyzed the opportunities available for U.K. companies in integrating into the U.S. offshore wind market. Currently, all contracted offshore wind farms under development in the U.S. are located on the east coast. It is anticipated that $80 billion in capex will be made in developing the industry in the U.S. by 2030, and that up to 83,000 jobs will be created.
