Jaxon Caines, technology reporter, Hart Energy: How is Halliburton’s IntelliSat pulse neutron logging service revolutionizing reservoir monitoring?
Reservoirs are the heart of an oil field. In working on development, operators need to update information about the oil, gas and water remaining in the rock so they can better extract those reserves.
And yes, there are tools that exist that allow operators to simultaneously drill into reservoirs and log information, but once a well is cased and completed, getting that information is difficult. And as reservoirs age, it becomes even more difficult, and that's where Halliburton comes in. With their IntelliSat pulse neutron logging service, taking the pulse of these reservoirs is now easier than ever.
John Savage, well intervention product champion for Halliburton's wireline and perforating group, said the product matches up “excellently” with the RMT-i tool, which was the previous logging tool.
IntelliSat uses a neutron generator to generate neutrons, which then create gamma rays that indicate the different elements present in the reservoir. Those elements include carbon, oxygen, calcium and silicon. It's able to work in 350 degrees Fahrenheit, 15,000 psi in sandstone and carbon environments.
So far, the IntelliSat has been deployed in Alaska, the Lower 48 and the Gulf of Mexico, with Haliburton expecting to launch the product commercially later this year.
And that's Tech Trends with Hart Energy Live. Every Tuesday we'll have a new episode drilling into the tech that fuels the oil patch at hartenergy.com/ep.
