Gran Tierra Energy Inc. made another oil discovery at its Charapa-B6 well in Ecuador’s Charapa Block as the company continues to explore the Oriente and Putumayo basins, the company announced Aug. 12.
The discovery is located west of the recently discovered Arawana-J1 and Bocachico Norte-J1 wells on the Chanangue Block.
Gran Tierra ran production casing, cemented and perforated the Hollin oil zone at over 50 ft of reservoir and began production testing.
A jet pump was run and the well produced at stabilized rates over 53 hours at 2,118 bbl/d, 28.2° API gravity oil, a 2.2% water cut and a gas-oil ratio of 21 scf per stock tank barrel.
Charapa-B6 is the first exploration well drilled in the Charapa Block since the Charapa-B5 well was drilled in 2022. Charapa-B5 has produced over 280,000 bbl to date.
This is Gran Tierra’s third oil discovery in 2024 and its fifth discovery in Ecuador. The company continues to take advantage of the exploration opportunities that remain within both the Charapa and Chanangue blocks, according to Gran’s press release.
The rig was also moved to drill the Charapa-B7 exploration well, which was spud on Aug. 9.
