Equinor’s primary gas field in the North Sea produced 42.5 billion standard cubic meters of gas in 2024, breaking the area’s prior record by almost 10%, the Norway-based company reported Jan. 6.
The record-setting production is the result of a year without well shutdowns for maintenance and equipment upgrades that increased efficiency, according to the company. Equinor began exploiting the Troll field in 1996.
"With record-high production in 2024, the Troll field confirms its position as a pillar of Europe's energy security,” said Kjetil Hove, Equinor's executive vice president for Exploration & Production Norway.
The field’s production total of 42.5 billion standard cubic meters equates to about 1,500 Bcf of natural gas in 2024.
