APA Corp.’s Sockeye-2 exploratory well in Alaska’s Brookian topset play averaged 2,700 bbl/d during the final flow testing period, according to an April 24 press release.

Sockeye-2, located in the 325,411-acre block of the state’s eastern North Slope, was drilled to a depth of approximately 10,500 ft.

The vertical well was completed in a single 25-ft interval at approximately 9,200 ft TVD without stimulation and the production test was achieved without artificial lift, APA said.

APA said the well encountered a Paleocene-aged clastic reservoir with an average porosity of 20%, an indication of higher reservoir quality compared to similar topset discoveries to the west.

"The results from the Sockeye-2 flow test are consistent with our expectations, demonstrating high quality reservoir, confirming our geologic and geophysical models and derisking additional prospectivity in the bloc,” said John J. Christmann, APA CEO.

The company will evaluate the data from Sockeye-2 to determine the next steps in its Alaska program, Christmann said.

APA holds a 50% working interest in the block along with partners Lagniappe Alaska (25%), an Armstrong Oil & Gas company, and Santos Ltd. subsidiary Oil Search Alaska (25%).

"This discovery significantly extends the prolific Brookian topset play first established with our Pikka discovery in 2013,” said Bill Armstrong, CEO of Armstrong Oil & Gas.
