John Hartig is Chief Executive Officer of Hart Energy, a leading multi-channel Media and Information Services company providing news, data, insights and events serving the global energy industry. 

Hartig became CEO in January, 2022 and brings more than 35 years of expertise in leading and re-engineering media and information service businesses to maximize shareholder value.  His leadership experience includes senior executive roles at Time Inc., Hearst Corporation, and c-suite positions at various private equity-sponsored portfolio companies.

Prior to joining Hart Energy, Hartig was Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in New York, within the Corporate Performance Improvement practice. 

Prior to Alvarez & Marsal, Hartig was Chairman & CEO of the Sports Information Group from 2009 to 2018 where he led the Company’s restructuring and rapid turnaround by re-engineering the company’s operation and flagship brand Daily Racing Form. He built a technology and development infrastructure that produced a robust suite of digital content, data products, and a gaming platform that accelerated high-margin EBITDA growth and positioned DRF.com as the go-to destination for online gaming.  The Company’s transformation culminated in a sale, positioning the business for further growth within the sports wagering sector. 

Among numerous roles within Time, Inc., Hartig was President & CEO of The Parenting Group where he transformed the legacy franchise into a leading multi-platform digital, television, print, and database operation.  At the Hearst Corporation, Hartig led the Magazine division’s consumer marketing operation and oversaw the division’s M&A initiatives.  Key accomplishments included reversing circulation profit declines and growing earnings to record levels across Hearst’s portfolio.

Hartig began his career in Los Angeles, at Needham, Harper & Steers, and then at Daily & Associates, before joining Time Inc. in 1985.

Hartig earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from California State University and holds an MBA from the University of Southern California.
