Drilling Activity Summary
Description
According to Petroleum News, the U.S. Geological Survey will be testing gas flow from a 2007 well drilled into coal seams near Wainwright, Alaska. Early test results from the well seem to suggest that the amount of methane produced could fuel Wainwright's electrical power needs for up to 40 years. The agency is planning to drill two additional wells, #10 Wainwright and #11 Wainwright, to delineate the extent of the coal seams and to determine the extent of the coal bed and gas within.
