Description
Lukoil announced results from a Sierra Leone exploration well that was drilled in deepwater Block SL-5-11. The #1X-Savannah penetrated oil-saturated reservoirs and samples were taken from the Turonian sands. The venture was drilled to 15,419 ft. in 2,000 ft. of water. According to Lukoil, the discovery demonstrates a working petroleum system that is generating and preserving high quality oil. One appraisal well is planned along with additional testing. Moscow-based Lukoil is the operator of Block SL-5-11 and #1-Savannah with 49% interest partner Oranto Petroleum holds 30% interest and PanAtlantic Exploration holds the remaining 21%.
