IHS Markit reported that Walter Oil & Gas Corp. is drilling a sidetrack in an abandoned offshore Louisiana reservoir on South Timbalier Block 260. The #1 (ST) OCS G34845 sidetrack was kicked off at 14,000 ft, according to Walter’s permit. The original hole was drilled to an undisclosed depth. The venture is located in the eastern half of Block 260 in about 294 ft of water. Block 260 was originally developed by Walter nearly 20 years ago and re-acquired the drilling rights to it in March 2013. Houston-based Walter also recently purchased the lease to adjacent Block 259 (OCS G34844).
