Drilling Activity Summary

Description

Shell Oil Co. has agreed with Sinopec to explore for shale oil resources in China's Shengli Field. Shengli Field has been in decline for several years and the study is expected to determine ways of increasing its output through discovering and producing its unconventional shale oil resources. Shell and Shengli have worked together on several prior occasions to exploit China's unconventional reserves. The two companies are also evaluating coalbed methane resources in the Ordos Basin with seismic surveying and a drilling program. China has the largest estimated shale reserves in the world outside the U.S, with technically recoverable shale gas at 1,115 Tcf, mostly in Sichuan Basin. Shell is based in Houston.
