Oil and Natural Gas Corp., based in Dehradun, India has submitted a plan to India's Ministry of Environment and Forests' Expert Appraisal Committee for a 17-well shale gas and oil exploration campaign on both the east and west coasts. This is the first large-scale shale gas exploration program the company has undertaken in the Krishna-Godavari Basin. The program calls for drilling 11 wells at Mehsana in Cambay Basin; at Ahmedabad, and Bharuch Districts, in Gujarat, one in Cauvery Basin at Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, and five wells in the KG Basin at East and West Godavari Districts in Andhra Pradesh. According to the Energy Information Agency (EIA), India has 63 Tcf of shale gas.
