A directional Cotton Valley test has been spud by Jackson, Miss.-based Pruet Production in Scott County, Miss. The #1 Board of Education 16-4 has a planned depth of 14,200 ft and is in Section 16-5n-6e. A successful oil completion would confirm the company’s Morton Southwest Field discovery. An offsetting wildcat was drilled in 1959 at #1 Ellis Gould, which was abandoned at 6,510 ft in Eutaw. The Morton Southwest Field opener is within 1 mile to the southeast and Pruet’s #1 Board of Education 16-10. It was completed in 2017 flowing 331 bbl of 47-degree-gravity crude and 105 Mcf of gas per day from Cotton Valley at 13,620-30 ft — it is the only active well in this part of the state.
