Dawson Geophysical Co. has applied with the Bureau of Land Management for approval to conduct its Blueberry 3-D seismic program for Orem, Utah-based Liberty Pioneer Energy Source Inc. in Utah’s Paradox Basin. According to IHS Markit, the San Juan County geophysical project covers approximately 67.2 sq mi (43,014 acres) in all or parts of the following sections: 35, 36 of township 30s-23e; 25-36 of township 30s-24e; 29-32 of township 30s-25e; 1-3, 10-15 and 22-24 of township 31s-23e; 1-24 and 26-30 of township 31s-24e; and 4-9 and 16-21 of township 31s-25e. Of the lands in the project area, 26,344 acres are BLM-managed lands, 8,213 acres are private lands and 8,457 acres are state-managed lands. The seismic project operations are expected to begin in July 2018 and will be completed by the end of the year. This part of the Paradox Basin field is located on the southwest flank of the Lisbon Valley-Dolores salt anticline. The field's Mississippian accumulation is controlled by a fault on the northeast side of the structure exhibiting a throw of about 1,200 to 1,600 ft.
