Description
A Kosmos Energy exploration well, #1-Morsouin, in offshore Mauritania Block C-8, encountered at least 70 m of net gas pay in Upper and Lower Cenomanian intervals. The well was drilled to an unreported depth and is in 2,400 m of water. About 60 km to the south is the first discovery in the basin, #1-Tortue. Houston-based Kosmos will move the drillship to drill another well in the southern part of the basin at #2-Ahmeyim. Kosmos operates the license areas (C-8, C-12, and C-13 ) with 60% equity along with partners Chevron at 30%, and Societe Mauritanienne Des Hydrocarbures et de Patrimoine Minier, 10%. The blocks are contiguous with a combined acreage of approximately 27,000 sq km.
