Description

A wildcat by Navajo Nation Oil & Gas Co. Inc. (NNOG) has been reported in a southern Paradox Basin area on the Navajo Indian Reservation south-southwest of Blanding, Utah. The 6,167-ft. #23-P Ute Canyon discovery is in the Barker Creek member of Paradox (Pennsylvanian). Oil was pumped at an initial rate of 48 bbl. per day, with 142 bbl. of water, and is in Section 23-41s-21e, southern San Juan County. It was tested in an acidized Barker Creek interval at 6,148-54 ft. Log tops include Lower Ismay at 5,477 ft.; Gothic shale 5,530 ft.; Desert Creek 5,538 ft.; Chimney Rock 5,714 ft.; Akah 5,731 ft.; Barker Creek 5,868 ft.; and Pinkerton Trail at 6,165 ft. A quarter-mile north of the discovery, NNOG has location staked for another 6,850-ft. wildcat in the same section. Window Rock, Ariz.-based NNOG is 100% owned by the Navajo Nation with the primary purpose of acquiring ownership and operation of energy resources on Navajo lands.
