Drilling Activity Summary

Description

A Kara Sea exploration well by Rosneft at one of the northernmost wells in the world is has discovered oil. The #1-Universitetskaexploration is in the Vostochno (East) Prinovozemelskiy-1 license area. The Moscow-based company's well was drilled to 2,113 m in 24 m of water and is about 250 km offshore Arctic Russia. A pilot borehole was drilled to 600 m and horizontal drill samples were collected. New geological data was obtained and upon completion of analysis a determination of the discovered field's resource base of can be made. According to Roseneft, the resource base estimate of the oil trap is 13.53 Tcf of gas with more than 710 MMbbl of oil. The Universitetskaya structure covers an area of 1,200 sq km with a 550-m high hydrocarbon trap. Approximately 30 structures were found in three East Prinovozemelskiy areas of the Kara Sea, and the entire resource base of the three areas is estimated at 87 Bbbl. Experts, according to the company, estimate that the volume of the Kara Sea oil province resources exceeds the oil and gas resources the Gulf of Mexico, the Brazilian shelf, the shelf of Alaska and Canada, and will be comparable to the resource base of Saudi Arabia. The Rosneft and ExxonMobil joint venture is exploring the Vostochno-Prinovozemelsky-1, -2, and -3 Blocks with Rosneft as the operator of #1-Universitetskaya. It holds 66.67% interest with ExxonMobil holding the remaining 33.33%.
