Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. has reported initial results from an exploration well in the offshore Hidaka area of Hokkaido. The well was drilled to 2,530 m and had a stable, but unreported gas flow. Area water depth is 1,070 m. The Tokyo-based company obtained a variety of geological data and also performed a production test in a probable gas reservoir. Additional testing is planned. Japan Petroleum is the operator of the well and the exploration area with 100% interest.
