Inpex To Drill Japan Exploratory Test
Drilling Activity Details
Drilling Activity Summary
Description
Tokyo-based Inpex Corp. plans to conduct a feasibility study of resuming crude production from an onshore Japan field in the Akita Prefecture. The company plans to drill an appraisal well in the northern district of Yabase Field during the first half of 2016 to determine if reservoir conditions are capable of further production. The field was on production from 1957 to 1972, but because of technical difficulties only yielded about 163.5 Mbbl of oil. The study will examine possible resumption of commercial production through advanced methods, including horizontal drilling. Depending on study results, another well could be drilled in 2018. In 2013, about 4.2 MMbbl of crude oil was produced in Japan, while more than 99% of domestic oil demand was imported from the Middle East.
