Merit Energy Co. has been granted a drilling permit for the first horizontal test in Wyoming’s Grass Creek Field in Hot Springs County. The #1H Curtis will be in Section 9-46n-98w with a lateral targeting Curtis. It will be drilled to the northeast to 6,034 ft with a bottom-hole location in Section 28-46n-98w and a planned true vertical depth of 3,730 ft. IHS Markit reported that the horizontal venture is a twin to #15 Little John in Section 29-46n-98w, a Frontier producer at 1,178-1,214 ft from the World War I era. The #15 Little John at last report was operated by Dallas-based Merit and was previously been operated by Marathon Oil Corp. During January 2018, it produced 43 bbl of oil, 3 Mcf of gas and 3.69 Mbbl of water during 31 days online.
