ExxonMobil Corp. plans to extend its two-block Thunder Horse project to the east. According to IHS Markit, the company plans to drill six exploratory tests at its Thunder Horse East prospect in Mississippi Canyon Block 779 (OCS G36136) and Mississippi Canyon Block 823 (OCS G36138). Water depth in the area is 6,400 ft. Mississippi Canyon blocks 779 and 823 were two of the most costly tracts awarded at the August 2017 lease sale. ExxonMobil holds a 25% stake in the BP Plc-operated Thunder Horse development. BP owns a 75% interest in the project.
