Exxon Mobil, based in Irving, Texas, announced testing results in a Cretaceous Toro Sandstone reservoir at appraisal well #2-Muruk in block PDL9 in the Highlands Province in Papua New Guinea. According to the operator, the test confirms gas in pressure communication with #1-Muruk ST3. The 3,500-m well flowed at a maximum rate of 16.5 MMcf of gas per day during testing on a 52/64-in. choke. Downhole pressure gauges have been installed to monitor the well during the pressure build-up phase to help evaluate the contingent resources in Muruk Field. The well has been plugged and abandoned and the rig is being demobilized. ExxonMobil is the operator of PDL9 and the Muruk Field with 21.7% interest in partnership with Oil Search, 24.4%; Ampolex, 21.7%; Kumul Petroleum, 20.5%; Nippon, 9.7%; and Gas Resources Juha No.1 with the remaining 2.0%.
