Drilling Activity Summary

Description

Testing at the offshore Republic of Congo Elephant discovery has confirmed its commerciality. Three drillstem tests were performed and results indicate excellent reservoir properties of the sand channels as well as some of the fluid characteristics at the Haute Mer A Block site. According to Beijing-based operator China National Offshore Oil Corporation, #1-Elephant was drilled in 550 m of water to 2,497 m and targeted a deeper turbiditic Tertiary play similar to fields adjacent to the Haute Mer A license area. Targets for #1-Elephant were the N5 and the N3 reservoir intervals in the Miocene Tertiary. Preliminary data indicated a 30 m of gross interval (20.3 m net) of crude oil; 102 m of gross interval (58.8 m net) of gas in the N5 interval; 16 m of gross interval (9.2 m net) of oil in the N3 interval and water was encountered in other secondary targeted intervals. The well was tested on a 36/64-in. choke and the flowrate was 1,180 bbl/d of oil with no sand or water. CNOOC is the operator of the Haute Mer A Block and #1-Elephant with 60% interest in partnership with Oryx, (20%), and China Petroleum Corporation (20%).
