Drilling has begun at a Carnarvon Petroleum Ltd. offshore Western Australia exploration well, #1-Phoenix South, on the North West Shelf in the WA-435-P permit area. The planned total depth is 4,500 m and could be extended to 5,000 m if gas is found below 4,500 m. Apache Corp. is the operator of the WA-435-P permit area and #1-Phoenix South with 40% interest in partnership with Perth-based Carnarvon, holding 20%, JX Nippon Oil, with 20%, and Finder Exploration with the remaining 20%.
