Drilling Activity Summary

Description

Two development tests have been permitted by BP Plc on the company’s Thunder Horse South Expansion Phase 2 project. The #19 OCS G14658 and #20 OCS G14658 will be drilled from offsetting surface locations in the northeastern portion of Mississippi Canyon Block 822. The London-based company plans to drill more wells and increase production in the Thunder Horse area. According to IHS Markit, Thunder Horse South expansion project is expected to add an estimated 50,000 bbl of oil equivalent per day to production in 2021. As part of the expansion project, BP intends to add two new subsea production units on Mississippi Canyon Block 822, roughly 2 miles south of the existing platform with up to eight wells drilled as part of the development. In 2019, BP said that breakthroughs in advanced seismic imaging had identified an additional 1 Bbbl of oil-in-place at Thunder Horse Field. The Thunder Horse platform is on Mississippi Canyon Block 778 and area water depth is 6,400 ft.
