Drilling Activity Summary

Description

A drilling plan has been filed by BHP Billiton Ltd. for a remote four-block prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The Melbourne, Australia-based company could drill as many as 24 tests from various surface locations in 3,900-4,400 ft of water. The prospect is made up of Alaminos Canyon Block 82 (OCS G35753), Block 83 (OCS G35754), Block 125 (OCS G35755) and Block 126 (OCS G35756). Few exploratory tests have been drilled within 25 miles of BHP's prospect. To the southwest is ConocoPhillips' Melmar prospect, where drilling is underway at #1 (BP) OCS G35137. About 25 to 35 miles east of BHP's prospect are numerous Lower Tertiary projects in the Keathley Canyon area under development by Chevron, ConocoPhillips and BP. Oil discoveries in the area were drilled to depths ranging from 30,000-35,000 ft.
