Drilling Activity Summary

Description

Beach Energy has submitted permit applications for an exploration program off New Zealand’s South Island in the Canterbury Basin. Although the government banned new offshore exploration permits in 2018, Beach has proposed to drill one initial exploration well as part of its Canterbury Basin exploration and appraisal drilling program. The program will assess the Wherry Prospect existing permit area PEP38264. Area water depth is about 1,300 m. The project is in its early planning and consultation phase, with drilling currently expected to begin in 2020 to 2021. Depending on results from this well, the government stated that Beach Energy may pursue a wider work program that could include up to 11 exploration or appraisal wells. Beach is based in Adelaide, South Australia.
