Global Middle Oil Distillates / Fuel Oil Outlook to 2030

Content:

Middle distillates, which include on-road, off road diesel, marine gas oils and Number 2 heating oil, represent the largest and a growing market share of refined petroleum products. Following the recession retraction in demand, middle distillate demand will rebound strongly as economies recover. On-road diesel is projected to show the strongest rate of growth among all products. The global distillate market will be the primary market and margin driver for refiners over the next two decades. Distillate supplies will eventually tighten, especially in the ultra clean diesel market.

Hart Energy’s Middle Distillate/Diesel Fuel Outlook examines past and future trends in the distillate market and provides a long-term view on the demand, alternate supply, quality requirements and impacts of government energy and environmental initiatives. The outlook includes insight on

  • Growth in road diesel and outlook for penetration in passenger vehicle markets,
  • Role of biodiesel and renewable fuels,
  • Role of Gas-to-Liquid and Coal-to-Liquid components,
  • Growing low sulfur requirements,
  • Global shift from gasoline to diesel,
  • Marine fuel quality and demand.
The outlook covers 7 regions of the world with additional breakdown for major consuming countries.

For distillates, the study examines the outlook for diesel and other demand in the wake of economic recession and subsequent recovery. The outlook includes annual forecasts of demand 2010 through 2015 and five-year forecast increments for 2015-2030. Longer-term the outlook examines emerging polices and market trends including the recent medium and heavy duty vehicle standards finalized by the U.S. Government, and global fuel quality initiatives. Demand forecasts include an outlook by distillate and diesel sulfur category.

The fuel oil section examines the outlook for stationary fuel and bunker markets. The bunker analysis addresses options and economics for MARPOL compliance strategies.
